Indian Embassy officials in Riyadh addresses CBSE school principals regarding exam cancellations

Abu Mathen George, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Indian Embassy in Riyadh, along with First Secretary Vipul Bawa, held a virtual interaction with principals of CBSE affiliated schools across Saudi Arabia.

During the session, they addressed queries related to CBSE board examinations and briefed school leaders on the current regional situation, as well as the Embassy’s efforts to support the Indian community.

CBSE Cancels Class 12 Examinations

The Central Board of Secondary Education has cancelled Class 12 board examinations scheduled in several West Asian countries due to the worsening regional conflict.

According to a CBSE circular, all Class 12 exams planned between March 16 and April 10 have been cancelled for students in Bahrain, Iran, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Exams that had previously been postponed have also been cancelled.

CBSE had earlier cancelled Class 10 board examinations, which were scheduled from February 17 to March 11.

Rising Regional Tensions

The conflict in West Asia has intensified, with the United States, Israel and Iran targeting each other’s energy resources, raising concerns over global oil and gas supplies.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that the Strait of Hormuz remains open to global shipping, but vessels linked to the United States and Israel would not be permitted to pass through. The statement was reported by The Jerusalem Post and reiterated in an interview with US news outlet MS NOW, according to ANI.

Uncertainty Over Assessment Process

There is currently no clarity on how students will be assessed following the cancellation of board examinations.

CBSE has stated in its circular that details regarding the results process will be announced soon.

Meanwhile, thousands of Indian students and their families across Gulf countries are awaiting further updates on how final grades will be determined.
