AlUla is one of those places where the photos don’t really prepare you for how impressive it is. It works surprisingly well with children too, especially if your family likes a mix of being outdoors, exploring and doing something a little different.

Getting there is fairly straightforward. AlUla International Airport has flights from Riyadh and Jeddah, along with some international routes. Once there, I would either hire a car or arrange transfers as everything is quite spread out. With children, it is worth booking some of your trips and activities before you arrive, especially at busy times.
Hegra has to be on the list. The ancient tombs carved into the rocks are incredible, and I would definitely book a guide. It makes it much more interesting for children when they hear the stories rather than just walking around looking at another historic site.
AlUla Old Town is lovely to wander around, stop for food and take your time. Elephant Rock is another easy one to do as a family, especially towards the end of the day when it gets cooler.
There is plenty for more active families too, including hiking, cycling and stargazing. Have a look at what is happening when you visit as there are often concerts, festivals, sporting events and local activities going on.

I would definitely choose the cooler months with children. Days are much easier for exploring, although evenings can get chilly so bring a few layers.
