King’s College Riyadh SEDRA Campus Opens In 2027

King’s College Riyadh SEDRA is one year away from opening, giving families in Riyadh a closer look at a new all-through British education option. The purpose-built campus is scheduled to welcome its founding students in August 2027, initially from Pre-School to Year 9 before expanding to Year 13.

The milestone was marked by ROSHN Group and Cognita in Riyadh, with education and government representatives attending the event. Dr Alice Burt, Deputy Ambassador at the British Embassy Riyadh, and Maryam Alasmari, General Education Sector Development Senior Director at the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, were among those present.

A New Education Option For Riyadh Families

The King’s College Riyadh SEDRA campus will extend the school’s presence in the Kingdom and provide families with an all-through education pathway.

The school currently operates its Diriyah campus, while the new SEDRA campus will provide education from the early years through to Sixth Form. The SEDRA site is being developed as a purpose-built learning environment for children across different stages of their education.

For parents, this means the opportunity to plan a longer educational journey within one school community. Meanwhile, the phased expansion will allow the campus to develop year by year as students progress through the school.

British Education Rooted In Saudi Arabia

The SEDRA campus will follow the National Curriculum for England, adapted to the Saudi context. Arabic language and Saudi national subjects will also form an important part of the curriculum.

The approach combines the heritage of King’s College UK with the experience of Cognita and the local context of Riyadh. As a result, students will have access to a British education while continuing to learn within the cultural and educational setting of Saudi Arabia.

Darren Gale, Managing Director, GCC, Cognita said,

“This is a hugely significant moment for ROSHN Group and Cognita, and for the next chapter of King’s College Riyadh. This partnership brings together ROSHN Group’s ambition to create communities where families can live, belong and thrive, with Cognita’s experience of creating the conditions for great schools to thrive. We are also building on strong foundations established at Diriyah and the heritage and authenticity of King’s. At SEDRA, we have the opportunity to bring those strengths together to create something really special for young people and families: an exceptional British education, global in outlook and authentically rooted in the culture, identity and ambition of Saudi Arabia.”

The campus will also offer internationally recognised pathways as students progress through secondary education, including IGCSEs, A-Levels and BTECs, alongside combined pathways.

Facilities Designed For Learning And Wellbeing

The new campus is being developed with facilities covering academic learning, sport, technology, creativity and the performing arts.

Plans include science and technology laboratories, music and art studios, specialist libraries, a theatre and performing arts centre, a 25-metre six-lane swimming pool and an eight-court sports hall. Students will also have access to padel courts, basketball courts and a full-size floodlit football pitch.

These facilities are intended to support learning beyond traditional classroom subjects. For students, they will provide opportunities to develop interests in sport, creative subjects, technology and performance alongside their academic studies.

Oussama Kabbai, Group Chief Development Officer at ROSHN Group said

“As we highlight the partnership between ROSHN Group and Cognita, this event honors the rapid momentum of our shared vision to elevate the quality of life through world-class education. We believe that a truly livable neighborhood requires premium social infrastructure, and this campus is the heart of that promise.”

What The Opening Means For Families

The SEDRA campus will be located within one of Riyadh’s growing residential communities. SEDRA is already home to more than 3,000 families, with schools, parks, retail facilities, mosques and other amenities forming part of the wider community.

For families considering schools in north Riyadh, the location could therefore be an important part of the decision. The school’s Parent Experience Centre at ROSHN Front is already giving prospective families an opportunity to learn about admissions, the curriculum and the planned campus.

Applications for the August 2027 opening are currently open. The school has confirmed that the campus will eventually provide a complete King’s education from Pre-School through Year 13.

Dr Alice Burt, Deputy Ambassador, British Embassy Riyadh said,

“The partnership between Cognita and ROSHN Group is a strong example of the continuing ties between the UK and Saudi Arabia, particularly investments in education. Initiatives such as King’s College Riyadh in SEDRA demonstrate how British expertise can work alongside Saudi ambition to create greater opportunities for future generations, while helping to strengthen the long-term people-to-people links between our two countries.”

For parents and educators, the development is significant not simply because of a new school building, but because it adds another long-term education pathway to a rapidly growing part of Riyadh. The planned opening in August 2027 will give families an additional choice for British education from the early years through secondary school and Sixth Form.
