Netflix Playground app launches with kids games and new shows

Netflix has unveiled a major expansion of its children’s entertainment offering with the launch of a new interactive gaming application and a slate of new and returning preschool series. The move strengthens its position as a leading destination for young audiences and families.

Interactive Gaming Experience for Children

The highlight of the announcement is Netflix Playground, a free gaming app designed for children aged eight and under. The platform allows users to play interactive games featuring characters from popular shows such as Peppa Pig, Sesame Street and Dr. Seuss.

The app includes no advertisements, in app purchases or additional fees, and is available as part of all Netflix memberships. It also supports offline play, making it suitable for travel and flexible use.

“We’re building a world where kids can not only watch their favorite stories, they can step inside them and interact with their favorite characters.”

John Derderian, Netflix vice president of animation and kids and family TV.

Netflix Playground has already launched in several markets including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, the Philippines and New Zealand, with rollout across the Middle East and North Africa scheduled for April 28.

New and Returning Children’s Series

Alongside the app, Netflix announced the renewal of popular children’s titles such as Trash Truck for a third season and The Creature Cases for a seventh chapter.

A new original series, Young MacDonald, will also debut, offering a musical storyline centred on the grandson of Old MacDonald as he explores farm life and problem solving with animal companions.

Upcoming releases include new seasons of Sesame Street, Ms. Rachel and CrunchLabs, reflecting the platform’s continued investment in educational and engaging content.

Growing Demand for Children’s Content

The expansion highlights the increasing importance of children’s programming for Netflix. Between 2023 and 2025, four of the most watched shows globally on the platform were from the children’s category, which now ranks as the second most watched genre overall.

The move is particularly significant for audiences in the Middle East and North Africa, where demand for high quality, advertisement free children’s content in both Arabic and English continues to grow. A young population and rising access to digital services are driving increased engagement with family focused entertainment.
