Saudi Arabia is to expand sports halls in public schools for girls, with the Quality of Life program and the Education Ministry set to launch an initiative to increase the number of sports halls in girls’ schools throughout the Kingdom to approximately 590.

Akhbar 24, an official source at the program, stated that the initiative is intended to create and equip sports halls in all girls’ schools, promoting a healthy lifestyle for all female pupils, as well as aiding in the training of physical education teachers.

Over the next 15 years, the number of Saudi athletes is predicted to exceed one million

The number of current sports halls in girls’ schools in Saudi Arabia is around 170, but following an increasing turnout in recent years, the decision has been taken to start implementing physical education programs in girls’ schools, in accordance with the capabilities available in each school.

The Kingdom allowed women to attend sports matches in 2011, allotting them 15% of the available stadium capacity.

Saudi women’s football has also seen genuine progress. For the first time, the Saudi Arabian Women’s Football National Team was included in the official FIFA World Ranking in 2023. Over the next 15 years, the number of Saudi athletes is predicted to exceed one million.
